Purim: Esther’s Greatness

Written by Moshe Kormornick

How did Esther save the Jewish people? She said “I’m Jewish!” What kind of argument is “I’m Jewish”, what’s the basis for her argument. How did that change the king’s mind? The answer lies in the kind of person Esther was. When Esther admitted her Jewish roots she quashed all of the fears that Haman had instilled within king Achashverosh. Esther was such a Kiddush HaShem and tzeddekes that when king Achashverosh saw that the person whom he loved and respected so much was Jewish, it changed his whole opinion about a people he had once hated and feared. Such is the greatness of one person – that if they act in HaShem’s ways, they can have an effect that could quite literally save the Jewish people from some sort of destruction.
