Pesach: That Elijah breeze

Written by Anonymous

Why do we open the door for Eliyahu? It’s freezing outside. Three suggestions: 1) Eliyahu needs a drink. 2) It’s “leil shemurim” – a guarded night – so we are not afraid to open the doors. 3) Rav Nebenzahl picks up on the Gemorah in Pesachim 86a, which tells us that back in the day it was traditional to bensch and to finish the seder up on the roof. Well how else are you going to get up there if you don’t open the door?
