Pesach: Kill The Jews

Written by Anonymous

We say on seder night, “An Aramean tried to destroy my father” (implying the whole Jewish people). How do we know this? The Gemorah in Gittin 64a relates the following – If a man appoints a legal emissary, instructing him “Go forth and act as my proxy in betrothing a woman to me”, and the emissary subsequently dies, the man who sent him is forbidden to marry any woman. This is because a man may not marry both a woman and her relative, and since he doesn’t know who he is married to, it could be that anyone is the near relative! Avraham sent Eliezer to do this for Yitzchak, and the Midrash says that Lavan tried to kill Eliezer! Therefore, if Eliezer had died, Yitzchak would not have been able to marry and there would not have been any descendants, and therefore, no more Jews. 🙁
