Holy Days - Shavuous
Written by Moshe Kormornick
When it was 2 weeks till my wedding it really hit me. I couldn't wait - 2 weeks 2 weeks! - and every day after that I would count down to the day. What was going on? I was so excited about my wedding that I didn't want those 13 days to exist, I wanted to be under the chupa at that point (even though I did not have a suit yet!)
So why don't we count down to Shavuos, aren't we excited? The main focus of the omer period is growth and preparation for receiving the Torah on Shavuos. It is the idea that every day is used in order to attain a higher spiritual level.
And so, counting up says that I plan to use the days correctly to improve my character as opposed to wanting the days to pass by quickly!
